Section 12-225.1-2 - Geothermal energy systems

(a) All pressure vessels forming a part of a geothermal energy system shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of ASME BPV Code Section I, or Section VIII Division 1, or Division 2, as applicable, and registered with the National Board. New installations shall require filing of an application for installation permit prior to the commencement of work as prescribed in section 12-220-2.1.
(b) All boiler external piping shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of the ASME B31.1. Application for authorization for the installation of boiler external piping shall be as prescribed in section 12-220-9.1.
(c) When pressure vessels having a manhole opening form part of a geothermal pressure system, the piping upstream from the pressure vessel shall be fitted with two stop valves having an ample free blow drain between them. In determining the existence of two stop valves, the well head stop valve shall not be counted.
(d) When multiple geothermal wells supply the same pressure system, all pressure vessels having a manhole opening shall be fitted on both the upstream side and the downstream side with two stop valves having an ample free blow drain between them.
