Current through Rules and Regulations filed through September 23, 2024

(1) GFSTC will consider individual requests for reciprocity to candidates who are seeking qualification/certification.

(2) Reciprocity allows a candidate to be entered into the GFSTC database and begin training for the next higher level of qualification/certification.

(3) GFSTC shall only grant reciprocity for Pro Board, IFSAC, and/or Department of Defense certifications for which GFSTC is accredited.

(4) GFSTC will grant reciprocity for certifications on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Executive Director. GFSTC shall consider granting reciprocity on two levels.

(a) Personnel who are seeking reciprocity for national certification shall:
1. Submit documentation of completion of training for review to their employing department for equivalency to the minimum training required and approved by the Council. If the department accepts the documented training, they are accepting responsibility for determining that the Candidate has met the minimum requirements as required by the Council.
(i) Training documentation includes transcripts, certificates, or other supporting records.

(ii) Certificates shall display a legible seal and certification number, if applicable.

2. Shall have the fire department submit the appropriate form to GFSTC for final approval.

(b) Personnel who have completed training, been granted reciprocity and wish to test for State Qualification/Certification shall:
1. Submit documentation of completion of training for review by GFSTC for equivalency to the minimum training required and approved by the Council. Training documentation includes transcripts, certificates, or other supporting records.

2. Be required to pass the State of Georgia tests for the level they are requesting.
(i) Said personnel shall have one opportunity to successfully pass the written and skills tests for the State Certification they are requesting.

(ii) Failure of either portion of the testing process shall require the Candidate to take a course offered by a training entity approved by the Council.

(4) GFSTC acceptance of reciprocity in no way relieves the candidate from training and testing requirements of the local fire department.
