Rule 205-1-5-.03 - Course Evaluations

(1) GFSTC shall treat all candidates in a fair and impartial manner.

(2) The Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council attempts to comply with reasonable accommodation requests set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

(a) All requests should be in writing and, when required, accompanied by an affidavit from a qualified medical professional with the doctor's signature.

(b) In the case of a learning disability there should also be documentation from a state accredited high school verifying the candidate has a reading comprehension disability and recommends written exams be administered orally.

(c) Only written or online tests may be read to a candidate. The candidate and the reader shall each be given a copy of the test to use during the test. All tests shall be returned to the Proctor. All candidates wishing to have a test read to them shall indicate the need for this accommodation during preregistration.

(d) Under no circumstance will a reading assistance device that records the information from the test be allowed during test events. If a reading assistance device accommodation is requested, the manufacturer, model and serial number of any reading devices shall be submitted to GFSTC at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the test event. GFSTC shall notify the requestors department before the scheduled test whether or not we will allow the use of the device. Reading devices shall not be used on skills tests.

(3) GFSTC Staff or Proctors approved by GFSTC shall administer all tests required by the Council for all fire service personnel to complete the qualification/certification process. All skills tests required to complete a certification shall be observed by an Evaluator approved by GFSTC.

(4) A Prerequisite Form shall be submitted to GFSTC by the fire department before an individual will be allowed to test.

(5) The fire department shall complete and submit a Prerequisite Form to GFSTC at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the test event for each level qualification/certification the department wishes an individual to attain. Requests for accommodation shall be made in writing at this time. All requests for accommodation shall be approved by GFSTC Staff before any test event. Test event Proctors shall not have the authority to grant any request for accommodation.

(6) The Prerequisite Form shall be signed by the Fire Chief or his/her Designee to verify completion of all requirements for qualification/certification as approved by the Council.

(7) A Prerequisite Form is required even if the candidate is retesting because he/she failed a test.

(8) The fire department shall complete and submit a Prerequisite Form and pre-register each candidate for online testing prior to the candidate taking the exam.

(9) All prerequisites are validated during the External validation process for the different levels of certification.

(10) Candidates may re-test up to two (2) times in accordance with GFSTC policy and procedures before retaking the course is required.

(a) Reference lists and practice tests for use by the candidate may be found on the GFSTC website at www.gfstconline.org.

(b) Candidates may also request, in writing, a student mastery from GFSTC documenting areas of weakness identified during the test.
