(1) REQUIREMENTS.
(a) Local boards
of education shall adhere to the following requirements.
1. Implement at the high-school level the
state-approved course of study in United States history, including its
institutions and ideals.
2.
Implement at the high-school level the state-approved course in citizenship
education in the background, history, and development of the United States'
system of government, including the essentials of the United States
Constitution, including the study of American institutions and ideals and a
study of the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States in addition
to other institutions and ideals.
3. Implement at the eighth grade the
state-approved course of study in Georgia history and government. This course
shall include a study of Georgia's institutions and ideals, a study of state
and local governments, and a study of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Georgia
flag in addition to other institutions and ideals.
(b) Local boards of education shall exempt
students who enter a Georgia public school after the eighth grade year from the
required course of study in Georgia history and government.
