Chapter 64B8-53 - ELECTROLYSIS TRAINING PROGRAMS
Section 64B8-53.002 - Curriculum Standards for Electrolysis Training Programs

In order to be approved by the Board, an electrolysis training program must meet the following curriculum standards:

(1) Academic instruction to be set out in school catalog.

Hours

(a) Introduction to electrolysis techniques through Galvanic, Thermolysis, Blend, and laser and light-based modalities, history of permanent hair removal, general treatment procedures.

(b) Principles of electricity, epilator functions, and adjustments.

(c) Laser and light-based hair removal physics.

5

(d) Laser safety and precautions.

5

(e) Integumentary System (skin and appendages).

(f) Circulatory (blood and lymph) and nervous system.

(g) Endocrine system, including related diseases.

(h) Biology of hair growth.

(i) Skin assessment, including skin typing, effects of all modalities, effects of temporary removal.

(j) Study of blood-borne pathogens with emphasis on hepatitis (all types), and HIV/AIDS.

(k) Microbiology of the skin (flora and fauna), sanitation and safety procedures including demonstrations in accordance with Rule 64B8-56.001, F.A.C.

(l) Clinic and office management, communications, professional ethics, bookkeeping, and patient management.

(m) Study of Division 64B8, F.A.C., as it relates to electrolysis, Chapters 478, and 456, Part II, F.S.

(n) Consultations including medical history, contraindications, conplications.

(2) Clinical Application

(a) Coordination skills with probe holder and forceps.

(b) Insertions.

(c) Sanitation/Sterilization Procedures.

(d) Hands on Equipment Instruction (Laser and Light-Based). This portion of the training must be supervised by a physician consistent with Rule 64B8-56.002, F.A.C.

(e) Hands on Equipment Instruction (Thermolysis).

(f) Hands on Equipment Instruction (Blend and Galvanic).

(g) Client Pre/Post Treatment.

(h) Client Assessment.

(i) General Treatment Procedures for all modalities.

(k) Visuals/Library.

(l) Review/Exam Preparation.

(3) This rule shall be reviewed, and if necessary, repealed, modified, or renewed through the rulemaking process five years from the effective date.
