Section 6F.04 - Sign Maintenance

Guidance:

01 Signs should be properly maintained for cleanliness, visibility, and correct positioning.

02 Signs that have lost significant legibility should be promptly replaced.

Support:

03 (DE Revision) Section 2A.08 and 6F.01 contain information regarding the retroreflectivity of signs, including the signs that are used in TTC zones.

Guidance:

04 (DE Revision) On high-speed expressways or other situations where temporary sign stands may be susceptible to overturning in the wind, ballasting should be used.

Option:

05 (DE Revision) In accordance with the temporary sign stand manufacturer's recommendations, sandbags, or a manufacturer approved alternative, may be placed on the lower parts of the frame or the stays of the temporary sign stand to provide the required ballast.

Standard:

06 (DE Revision) If used, sand ballasts shall consist of a suitable mixture of material to preclude the ballast from freezing.
