(a) The devices listed in this section ("listed operational aids") are required on all mobile cranes and derricks covered by Group 13, as applicable, unless otherwise specified.
NOTE: See Section 4968.2 for tower cranes.
(b) Operations shall not begin unless the listed operational aids, as applicable, are in proper working order.
EXCEPTION: Where an operational aid is being repaired the employer shall use the specified temporary alternative measures; however, more protective alternative measures specified by the crane/derrick manufacturer, if any, shall be followed.
(c) If a listed operational aid stops working properly during operations, the operator shall safely stop operations until the device is repaired, or the device is again working properly. Any replacement part or device utilized shall perform the same type function as permitted subject to the provisions of Section 4884.1.
(d) Operational aids and alternative measures. Operational aids listed in this section that are not working properly shall be repaired no later than 7 calendar days after the deficiency occurs subject to the provisions of subsection (c). See Section 5008.1(g) for additional requirements.
Temporary alternative measures: The operator shall verify that the position of the outriggers or stabilizers is correct (in accordance with manufacturer procedures) before beginning operations requiring outrigger or stabilizer deployment.
Temporary alternative measures: Mark the drum to indicate the rotation of the drum. In addition, install mirrors or remote video cameras and displays if necessary for the operator to see the mark.
