(a) Safety devices. The following safety devices are required on all equipment covered by Group 13, as applicable, unless otherwise specified:
NOTE: See Section 4968 for tower cranes.
EXCEPTION: This requirement does not apply to portal cranes and derricks.
EXCEPTION: Boom angle or radius indicator not applicable to articulating cranes.
(b) Proper operation required.
Operations shall not begin unless all of the safety devices listed in this section are in proper working order. If a required safety device stops working properly during operations, the operation shall be safely stopped. If any device listed in this section is not in proper working order, the equipment shall be taken out of service and operations shall not resume until the device is again working properly. See Section 5008.1 (Operation). Alternative measures are not permitted to be used.
EXCEPTIONS TO SUBSECTION (b):
1. New article 98.1 (sections 5017-5018) and section filed 7-26-2022; operative 7-26-2022 pursuant to Government Code section 11343.4(b)(3) (Register 2022, No. 30). Filing deadline specified in Government Code section 11349.3(a) extended 60 calendar days pursuant to Executive Order N-40-20 and an additional 60 calendar days pursuant to Executive Order N-71-20.
