Section 1430.142 - Citrus Assessment

An assessment shall be collected to fund a Navel and Valencia orange, lemon, and mandarin citrus inspection program, a crop estimating service, and a statewide acreage survey.

(a) The assessment shall be paid by producers of Navel and Valencia oranges, lemons, and mandarin citrus that are grown in California and prepared for fresh market in the counties specified in Division 17, Chapter 11 of the Food and Agricultural Code.

(b) The assessment shall be 7 mills ($0.007) per carton for Navel oranges, 1 mill ($0.001) per carton for lemons, 3 mills ($0.003) per carton for Valencia oranges, and 4 mills ($0.004) per carton for mandarin citrus. Carton is defined as the number of 40-pound carton equivalents of citrus fruit produced.

(c) The assessments shall be collected by the first handlers located in the counties of Fresno, Kern, Madera, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Clara, Tulare, and Ventura, for the statutorily authorized activities set forth in Food and Agricultural Code Section 48002.

(d) The first handler shall collect the assessment from the producer.

(e) The first handler shall submit to the department all assessments collected at the end of each month during the marketing season.
