(a) These provisions shall supersede the requirements of Sections 926 and 945 of this Chapter.

(1) Journeyman Fire Sprinkler Fitters, or those who possess an active State of California Contractor State License Board Fire Protection Contractor (C-16) License or those who are employed by a C-16 contractor who meet the requirements of this Section within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of this Chapter, shall not be required to take an examination.

(2) A Sprinkler Fitter Certification Application (AES 1005) shall be accompanied by the following documentation for the applicant to meet the minimum qualifications;
(A) Commercial:
(i) 7000 hours verified work experience.

(ii) Five (5) years working within the scope of these regulations.

(B) Multi-family Residential:
(i) 3500 hours verified work experience.

(ii) Two (2) years working within the scope of these regulations.

(3) The employment hours shall be verified by letter on company letterhead certifying the experience and hours from the fire sprinkler fitter's employer and shall be approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

(b) No certification card shall be required within one (1) year, (365 days) of the effective date of this Chapter.

(c) Commencing on the second (2nd) year (366th day) of the effective date of this Chapter there shall be a minimum of one (1) certified sprinkler fitter on each job site.

(d) Commencing on the 18th month (545th day) of the effective date of this Chapter all persons on the jobsite performing installation, alteration or repair of water-based fire protection systems shall possess a certification or registration card.

(e) This section shall cease to have effect on the 18th month or (546th day) from the effective date of this Chapter and all requirements shall be met.
