Section 1265.02 - Safety Element Review Procedures

(a) The Board shall, and a local fire agency may, review the draft or an existing safety element and recommend changes to the local agency within sixty (60) days of its receipt regarding both of the following:

(1) Uses of land and policies in SRAs and VHFHSZs that will protect life, property, and natural resources from unreasonable risks associated with wild land fires.

(2) Methods and strategies for wild land fire risk reduction and prevention within SRAs and VHFHSZs.

(b) The Board may utilize CAL FIRE land use planning staff as technical experts in the review of submitted safety elements.

(c) Safety elements shall be evaluated against the General Plan Safety Element Assessment (June 2020) (Assessment), hereby incorporated by reference, which is based on the requirements in Government Code section 65302, subdivisions (g)(3) and (g)(5), and Government Code section 65302.15. This Assessment may also contain examples of goals, policies, objectives, and implementation measures that jurisdictions may utilize in their overall fire hazard planning efforts.
