LEGAL NOTICE PUBLISHED: A Legal Notice was published once a week for 3 weeks in a newspaper of statewide circulation.

FINAL DATE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT: These amendments will be adopted as permanent regulations on May 31, 1989.

WHEREAS, Arkansas State Highway Commission Minute Order 87-518 adopted the "Policy for Erection of Specific Information Signs" as official regulations, and whereas under these regulations, the number of LOGOs on a sign panel is limited to six for GAS and four each for FOOD, LODGING, and CAMPING; and

WHEREAS, the initial federal regulations restricting the number of LOGOs on a sign panel have been changed to allow six LOGOs for GAS, FOOD, LODGING, and CAMPING; and

WHEREAS, the construction and erection of LOGOs by companies under contract with the Arkansas State Highway Commission will begin shortly, and whereas, under these contracts, the number of LOGOs on a sign panel will be limited by existing state regulations unless the attached amended regulations are adopted; and another such contract will be let to contract in the near future;

WHEREAS, the attached amendments to the "Policy for Erection of Specific Information Signs" is consistent with the current federal regulations; and

WHEREAS, the attached amendments will save the State of Arkansas money and will provide travelers with more business identification information for motorist services:

IT IS THEREFORE, found by the Arkansas State Highway Commission that imminent peril to the public health, safety, and welfare requires adoption of these amendments so that any sign panels erected under the LOGO program can be constructed and erected in accord with current federal regulations.

NOW THEREFORE, the "Policy for Erection of Specific Information Signs" adopted under Highway Conmission Minute Order 87-518 is hereby changed by amendment to the following paragraphs, to read as follows:

b. Composition
(1) Single-Exit Interchanges. The name of the type of service followed by the exit number shall be displayed in one line above the business signs. The "GAS", "FOOD", "LODGING", and "CAMPING" specific information signs shall be limited to six business signs each except as otherwise permitted in 3.d. Number of Signs Permitted.

(2) Double-Exit Interchanges. The specific information signs shall consist of two sections, one for each exit. The top section shall display the business signs for the first exit and the lower section shall display the business signs for the second exit. The name of the type of service followed by the exit number shall be displayed in a line above the business signs in each section. Where a type of motorist service is to be signed for at only one exit, one section of the specific information sign may be omitted, or a single-exit interchange sign may be used. The number of business signs on the sign panel (total of both sections) shall be limited to six each for "GAS", "FOOD", "LODGING", AND "CAMPING" except as otherwise permitted in 3.d. Number of Signs Permitted.
