Section R12-8-302 - Criteria for Evaluation

A. Before listing a property in the Register, the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), with the advice of the HSRC, will apply the following criteria for evaluating the property:
1. The property
conveys significance in one or more of the following contexts: national, state
or local history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, or culture;
2. The property is classified as one of the
following types: district, site, building, structure, or object;
3. The property possesses integrity of
location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, or association;
and
4. The property:
a. Is associated with an event that made a
significant contribution to the broad pattern of history;
b. Is associated with the life of a
historically significant person;
c.
Embodies a distinctive characteristic of a type, period, or method of
construction, represents the work of a master, possesses high artistic value,
or represents a significant and distinguishable entity whose components may
lack individual distinction; or
d.
Has yielded or is likely to yield important pre-historical or historical
information.
B. The SHPO shall not consider eligible for the Register any property that has achieved significance within the past 50 years unless the property is an integral contributing element of a district that meets the criteria in subsection (A) or the property demonstrates exceptional individual importance.
