7 AAC 140.320 - Length of hospitalization

(a) Except as provided in (b) of this section, the department will not pay for more than three days of hospitalization for any single admission, except that, for a maternal and newborn hospital stay related to childbirth, the department will not pay for more than 48 hours of inpatient hospitalization for a single recipient following a normal vaginal delivery and no more than 96 hours of inpatient hospitalization for a single recipient following a cesarean delivery.

(b) The department will not pay for coverage beyond the days or hours of hospitalization specified in (a) of this section unless the department has given prior authorization for those days or hours under 7 AAC 105.130.

(c) If the department reimburses a provider under the Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) methodology, the department will use the method specified in 7 AAC 150.250(a)(4) to calculate the amount that will be reimbursed for the length of stay.
