7 AAC 52.415 - Health inspection upon admission

(a) A juvenile detention facility shall provide for the safekeeping, housing, care, and subsistence of those juveniles admitted 7 AAC 52.400. However, if the admitting facility staff member finds the juvenile to be unconscious or in immediate need of medical attention, the admitting staff member shall advise the remanding or admitting party to contact responsible medical authority. The admission process may not be commenced until the admitting staff member is satisfied that the admittee has received medical attention.

(b) During the admission process, the admitting staff member shall determine whether the admittee is in need of any medical attention by inspecting for obvious injuries or illnesses, and by inquiring about any medical problems or recent use of medication or unprescribed drugs. Juveniles who appear to be ill, injured, or incapacitated by alcohol, narcotics, or similar agents, but not in immediate need of medical attention, must be given medical attention as soon as practical. A written record must be kept of the admission interview and health inspection.
