(a) Staff may not require a resident to work, whether within or outside the facility, with or without compensation, except that a resident may be required to perform chores reasonably related to grounds maintenance, housekeeping, food service, and personal hygiene.

(b) Residents may work within the facility for compensation.

(c) Residents may, with permission of the superintendent, work as employees outside the institution for a public or private employer for regular wages. Employment of residents outside the facility must be in compliance with local, state, and federal child labor and minimum wage laws.

(d) Resident earnings from employment within or outside the facility shall be deposited in the resident's account, and the resident shall be given a receipt.

(e) Staff shall encourage residents to do volunteer work and community work service.
