7 AAC 05.190 - Designated magistrates

Only those district magistrates and deputy magistrates designated by the Alaska Court System and the State Registrar as recorders of vital records shall have the powers and duties of recording vital statistics records. This shall involve the recording of all vital statistics records for events occurring within the one or more registration districts into which such recording district may be subdivided; the transmittal of the original records to the bureau; the preservation, indexing, and making authorized corrections on the recorded copies of vital records; the protection of such records from unauthorized disclosure; issuance of certified copies, partial copies, or verifications of such records to authorized persons or agencies; the collection of authorized fees for such copies or services, and the proper disposition of such fees; and any other related duties assigned; all under the provisions of the Vital Statistics Act, related laws, regulations, and instructions. Such duties and responsibilities shall be in addition to any others assigned by the Alaska Court System, either by law or order, in relation to vital statistics records.
