6 AAC 27.175 - Combined municipal and state elections

(a) A municipality may request that the director of elections conduct a special election on behalf of the municipality to be held on the same day as the state's primary or general election.

(b) The written request must be signed by the chief election official of the municipality and received by the director at least 150 days before the state election.

(c) The request must include

(1) the type of election; and

(2) ballot language

(d) Repealed 2/24/2022.

(e) The division of elections will prepare a memorandum of agreement that sets out the

(1) responsibilities of the division and municipality; and

(2) cost to the municipality.

(f) The municipality shall print ballots for the municipal special election on colored stock that can be easily identified from the state's white ballots. To make sure that ballot-counting equipment can count the ballots properly, the division of elections will provide the municipality with the ballot printer's specifications.

(g) The city or borough clerk shall assist the regional election supervisor in training election workers in the proper procedures for the municipal special election and the state election respectively, and make the election workers aware that the elections are separate.

(h) When the polls close, ballots for the state election must be counted first and results provided to the division of elections before ballots for the municipal special election are counted.

(i) The municipality is responsible for the final certification process for the municipal special election and for providing the public with final results.
