18 AAC 72.050 - Minimum treatment

(a) The department may authorize a person to discharge domestic wastewater into or onto water or land, if the discharge
(b) A person may not discharge domestic wastewater with less than primary treatment.
(c) The department may allow or require treatment different from the minimum set out in this section as necessary to protect public health, public and private water systems, or the environment. In deciding to evaluate alternative minimum treatment requirements under this section or a waiver of minimum treatment under 18 AAC 72.060, the department will consider other permit or plan approval requirements, and the receiving environment.
(d) The department will require treatment of nondomestic wastewater appropriate for the type of wastewater and the proposed disposal method as necessary to protect public health, public and private water systems, and the environment. In deciding an appropriate level of treatment under this section, the department will consider the type of wastewater, the proposed disposal method, the sensitivity of the receiving environment, and any other permit requirements or plan approval conditions.
The discharge of domestic wastewater from vessels is regulated by federal standards of performance for marine sanitation devices under 33 U.S.C. 1322 (Clean Water Act, sec. 312).
