Current through August 30, 2024

(a) A driver of a commercial motor vehicle may not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, considering the speed of the vehicles, the traffic upon the roadway, and the condition of the roadway.

(b) When a commercial motor vehicle is towing another vehicle, traveling upon a roadway outside a business or residence district, and following another commercial motor vehicle that is also towing a vehicle the driver shall, when conditions permit, leave sufficient space between the driver's vehicle and the vehicle being towed in front of the driver's vehicle so that an overtaking vehicle may enter and occupy the space between the towing vehicles without danger. This subsection does not prevent a commercial motor vehicle towing another vehicle from overtaking and passing another vehicle.

(c) A commercial motor vehicle traveling in a caravan or motorcade upon a roadway outside a business or residence district, must be operated so as to allow sufficient space between each vehicle or combination of vehicles to enable another vehicle to enter and occupy the space without danger.
