Employees, as defined by Code of Ala. 1975, § 16-25A-1, of employers which have not elected not to participate in PEEHIP shall be member employees and shall be deemed to have elected basic hospital/medical coverage unless such employee affirmatively elects an optional coverage. Optional coverage may be elected upon initial enrollment or during a period of open enrollment.
