Chapter 800-1-2 - ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP
Section 800-1-2-.01 - Full-Time Employees

(1) All full-time employees of public education shall be enrolled in the Teachers' Retirement System as a condition of employment.
(2) Full-time employment shall be in the time required for that full-time position as determined by the employer but at least 20 hours per week. Service as an elected official after October 1, 1985, shall not be eligible employment for which enrollment is permitted or for which service credit will be granted, except that persons participating in the Teachers' Retirement System as elected officials on October 1, 1985, shall continue to be eligible and shall continue to participate in such capacity as long as they continue to serve in such elective office.
(3) Any member of the Teachers' Retirement System who shall assume a position of less than full-time shall continue to be a member of the Teachers' Retirement System and shall receive creditable service in proportion to the percent of time he works when compared to a full-time employee, as certified by his employer.
