Chapter 610-X-10 - CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR LICENSURE
Section 610-X-10-.04 - Acceptable Providers Of Continuing Education

(1) Board-approved continuing education providers that have an assigned ABNP number and meet the standards of this chapter.
(2) Providers of continuing education recognized by the Board.
(a) Continuing education approved by any
state board of nursing in the United States or its territories.
(b) Continuing education approved by national
associations or organizations that are accredited by a national continuing
education body. Any continuing education provider approved by the American
Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the International Association of
Continuing Education and Training (IACET) shall be recognized by the Board if
the content requirements are met pursuant to this chapter.
(c) National nursing organizations that
approve providers of continuing education or offer continuing education are
recognized by the Board.
(d)
Continuing education provided by an Alabama regulatory board shall be
recognized by the Board.
(e) AMA
PRA Category 1 Credits sponsored or conducted by those organizations or
entities accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the Medical
Association of the State of Alabama or by the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
(f) Standardized national courses approved by
a national organization that establishes the standardized course. The maximum
number of contact hours the Board shall recognize, unless a Board-approved
provider awards more, are listed for each course.
1. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Initial Course: 4.5 contact hours.
2. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Renewal Course: 3 contact hours.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Initial Course: 13.5 contact hours.
4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal
Course: 9 contact hours.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Initial Course: 14 contact hours.
6. Pediatric Advanced Life Support Renewal
Course: 8.5 contact hours with optional lessons; 6.5 contact hours without the
optional lessons.
7. Instructor
Course: Core Instructor Course: 8 contact hours plus discipline specific
component.
8. Advanced Cardiac Life
Support Instructor Course- discipline specific component: 7.5 contact
hours.
9. Basic Life Support
Instructor Course-discipline specific component: 5.5 contact hours.
10. Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Instructor Course-discipline specific component: 9.5 contact hours.
11. Electrocardiography (ECG) and
Pharmacology: 6.25 contact hours.
12. Electrocardiography: 3.5 contact
hours.
13. Pharmacology: 2.75
hours.
14. Pediatric Emergency,
Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): 7 contact hours.
15. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): 14.42
contact hours.
16. Emergency
Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC): 15.33 contact hours.
17. Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing (CATN):
13 hours.
18. Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation/Automatic External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) for Professional
Rescuer: 8 contact hours for initial course or four (4) contact hours for
review/update course
19. Instructor
Course for CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer: 16 contact hours
20. International Trauma Life Support
(i) International Trauma Life Support-
Advanced Provider: 16 contact hours
(ii) International Trauma Life Support -
Instructor: 8 contact hours
(iii)
International Trauma Life Support Pediatric - Provider: 8 contact
hours
21. Neonatal
advanced life support or neonatal resuscitation program: The Board may
recognize the total contact hours awarded by a Board-approved or
Board-recognized provider.
(g) State Nurses Associations.
(h) Continuing education provided by colleges
and universities that are accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S.
Department of Education and have continuing education as part of their
mission.
