Section 485-X-4-.06 - Seals And Authorization For Registered Interior Designer

(1) The Board shall issue a seal and an Authorization as a registered interior designer for which an annual fee is due in an amount to be determined by the Board. The Board may issue a seal and an authorization approving an individual as a registered interior designer and authorize the use of the title registered interior designer in the State of Alabama only if: the applicant holds a valid Certificate of Registration prior to the submission of an application for registered interior designer, the applicant is a graduate of an accredited interior design program of four or more years at a college or university approved by the Board based on standards established by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) and Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER) or their equivalent, and the applicant has successfully passed the "sealed level examination".

(2) Any individual registered or licensed to practice interior design in any state of the United States other than the State of Alabama who has successfully passed the "sealed level examination" or equivalent examination accepted and approved by the Board may apply for registered interior designer status. A seal and an Authorization shall be issued if the individual otherwise complies with other requirements imposed on all applicants.

(3) Those applicants found to be qualified by the Board shall be granted the design of a seal and an Authorization containing the full name of the applicant, the date and term of issuance, the seal of the Board and the signature of the Chair. Seals and Authorizations are issued to individuals only.

(4) Seals and Authorizations issued by the board shall run to and include December 31 of the calendar year following their issue. Seals and Authorizations shall be renewed annually for the following calendar year, by the payment of a fee in an amount to be determined by the Board. Seals and Authorizations not renewed by December 31 shall become invalid.

(5) Each seal and Authorization issued by the Board shall be maintained in the possession of the individual to whom it is issued and the Authorization shall be posted in the business office where the individual practices.

(6) Each individual authorized as a registered interior designer shall purchase from the Board a seal which the individual shall use to identify all plans, specifications, drawings, reports or related documents prepared or issued by the individual. The seal shall contain the name of the individual authorized as a registered interior designer, with a number or other identifying information issued by the Board and shall be circular, two inch (2") in diameter. The seal shall be the type, which shall make an impression by rubber stamp or mechanical die imprint or preprinted sheets. When approved by the Board, electronically formatted seals may be utilized. No individual shall use a seal unless the individual is authorized as a registered interior designer, including all renewals required.
