Chapter 482-2-102 - SAFETY STANDARDS FOR SPECIFIC BUILDINGS
Section 482-2-102-.01 - School Buildings

All buildings occupied and used as schools shall meet the following safety standards:

(a) All buildings must have approved fire exits from every floor as required by the codes and standards adopted by the State Fire Marshals Office.

(b) Flammable materials and hazardous supplies must be stored in fire retardant cabinets/rooms or in outside storage buildings/areas.

(c) Severe weather drills must be held seasonally, with one during the period of September through November and one during the period of January through March.

(d) Fire escape diagrams and safe-place (areas of refuge) diagrams for severe weather must be posted in all rooms that house students.

(e) Fire extinguishers must be provided and mounted in every building as required by the codes and standards adopted by the State Fire Marshals Office, must have a current tag showing the last date of inspection and maintenance, and must be kept in proper working order.

(f) Regular inspections for fire hazards must be conducted by school officials and the dangers removed.

(g) Panic hardware on exit doors must be in proper working order.
