The following codes and standards are hereby adopted by the State Board of Health, and are applicable to all health care facility projects submitted to the Department of Public Health for review.

(1) Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities, 2014 Edition. This standard is adopted only for the following Alabama Administrative Code chapters:

(a) Chapter 520-5-2, "Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Facilities"

(b) Chapter 420-5-7, "Hospitals"

(c) Chapter 420-5-9, "Freestanding Emergency Departments"

(2) International Building Code, 2015 Edition, as indicated below:

(a) Owners and designers of projects are responsible for complying with the requirements of the entire building code.

(b) Technical Reviews performed by the Department of Public Health will generally focus on the requirements of building code chapters 2 through 7, 9, 10, 11, 28 through 31, and 35.

(c) Where references to "ICC Electrical Code" occur, substitute the appropriate standards or requirements of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, as adopted by the State Board of Health.

(d) Where references to "International Fire Code" occur, substitute the appropriate standards or requirements of the NFPA, as adopted by the State Board of Health.

(3) NFPA 101: Life Safety Code, 2012 Edition, except Chapter 5.

(4) 2012 NFPA National Fire Codes, including, but not limited to, the following:

(a) NFPA 10: Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, 2010 Edition.

(b) NFPA 13: Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, 2010 Edition.

(c) NFPA 13D: Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, 2010 Edition.

(d) NFPA 13R: Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies up to and Including Four Stories in Height, 2010 Edition.

(e) NFPA 14: Standard for the Installation of Standpipe, Private Hydrant, and Hose Systems, 2010 Edition.

(f) NFPA 17A: Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems, 2009 Edition.

(g) NFPA 20: Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection, 2010 Edition.

(h) NFPA 24: Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances, 2 010 Edition.

(i) NFPA 25: Standard for the Inspection,. Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, 2011 Edition.

(j) NFPA 55: Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code, 2010 Edition.

(k) NFPA 70: National Electrical Code, 2011 Edition.

(l) NFPA 72: National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, 2010 Edition.

(m) NFPA 90A: Standard for the Installation of Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, 2012 Edition.

(n) NFPA 90B: Standard for the Installation of Warm Air Heating and Air-Conditioning Systems, 2012 Edition.

(o) NFPA 96: Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations, 2011 Edition.

(p) NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, 2012 Edition.

(q) NFPA 110: Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems, 2010 Edition.

(r) NFPA 220: Standard on Types of Building Construction, 2012 Edition.

(s) NFPA 221: Standard for High Challenge Fire Walls, Fire Walls, and Fire Barrier Walls, 2012 Edition.
