The Department of Homeland Security was created to ensure that adequate preparations are made to provide for the common defense of Alabama's infrastructure and resources and to protect and preserve the life, health, welfare and property of its citizens. It shall be the purpose of the Department to assist, coordinate and encourage homeland security preparedness by other state departments and agencies and the political subdivisions of the state.
