Section 290-5-1-.01 - Minimum Standards For Organizing Kindergarten Programs In Alabama Schools

(1) Teacher. Teachers must be certified in Early Childhood Education (P-3) or Elementary Education (K-6).
(2) Teacher-Pupil Ratio. The maximum teacher-pupil ratio shall be based on the most current Board resolution regarding class size which is 1:18.
(3) Age of Admission. A child who is five years of age on or before September 1 or the date on which school begins in the enrolling district shall be entitled to admission to the local public school kindergartens at the opening of such schools for that school year or as soon as practicable thereafter as specified in Ala. Code § 16-28-4.
(4) Immunization.
(5) Daily schedule. The beginning and ending times of the school day in kindergartens shall be the same as the schedule of the elementary schools in the systems of which they are a part.
(6) Department documents and the accrediting standards for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools shall be used in establishing and evaluating kindergarten programs.
