Chapter 105-X-1 - AID TO FAIRS STANDARDS AND CRITERIA FOR JUDGING FAIRS
Section 105-X-1-.02 - Categories To Be Judged

The following categories will be judged and scored by the committee. Scoring will be on the point system up to a maximum of 100 points.

(1) Individual Exhibits:

(a) Variety and quantity in categories: Consider population and area served. Score 0-5 points for below average, 6-10 points for average and 11-15 points for above average. Maximum 15 points.

(b) General appearance of entries and displays: Score 0-2 for below average 3-4 points for average and 5-7 for above average. Maximum 7 points.

(2) Commercial, school, school organizations, community, public service, etc.: Consider population of area served. Maximum 8 points in each category. Score 0-2 points below average, 3-6 for average, and 7-8 for above average.

(a) Educational value Schools, FHA, youth groups, and other educational exhibits.

(b) Agricultural value Livestock, farm and garden crops, 4-H, FFA, and other agricultural exhibits.

(c) Civic and community involvement, public service, religious, government agencies, etc.

(d) Industry and business: Observe to what extent is industry and business involved in the exhibit.

(3) Publicity: Score 0 points for below average 1-2 points for average, and 3 points for above average. Maximum 3 points.

(4) Promotions, special events and/or special promotions: Score 1/2 point for each activity. Maximum of 4 points.

(5) Entertainment: Score 1 point for each activity. Maximum of 5 points.

(6) Overall operation:

(a) Housekeeping, sanitation and general appearance: Observe the general appearance of fair grounds, inside tents, buildings, rest rooms and workers' appearance. Maximum of 4 points.

(b) Planning: Observe if fair is well planned and operated. Observe if there are sufficient members of sponsoring organization visible for information and control. Maximum of 4 points.

(c) Compare with other fairs: Observe how fair compares with other fairs in approximately same population area and how fair appears to be serving the area. Score 0-2 points for below average, 4-5 points for average and 5-7 points for above average.

(7) Personal opinion of committee on how fair has improved over last year. Score 0-2 points for below average, 3 points for average and 4-5 points for above average.

(8) Increase in number of individual exhibits:

(a) Increase over last year in number of individual exhibits and exhibitors as listed in item two above, except commercial. Score 0 points if increase is less than 1%, 1 point if 1-5% increase, and 2 points if increase is greater than 5% in each category. Maximum of 8 points.

(b) Score 2 points if increase in three out of four categories.

(9) Agricultural Center Board's receipt of basic allotment form within 35 days of the close of fair. Score 2 points.

(10) Application for merit awards report: Score 0 points if three or more entries incomplete, 1 point if two or less entries not complete, and 2 points if complete.
