The SunShot Prize: Solar in Your Community Challenge
The Department of Energy (DOE) gives notice of the official release of rules for the SunShot Prize: Solar in Your Community Challenge. The Solar in your Community Challenge is a $5 million prize competition to expand solar access to underserved segments, specifically low-and-moderate-income (LMI) communities; non-federal governments (i.e. state, local, and tribal), and non-profit organizations. The Challenge supports the creation, demonstration, and scaling of innovative, replicable, and sustainable business and financial models that can successfully unlock solar access to these underserved segments. A $500,000 Grand Prize will be awarded to the best team that can most successfully demonstrate a model and plan to scale solar to low and moderate income market segments. Other top teams will compete to receive four final prizes totaling $500,000 based on their achievements and potential to scale up. In addition to competing for final prizes, DOE will award selected teams a total of $2 million in seed awards and $2 million in technical assistance throughout an 18- month performance period starting in April 2017 based on successful milestone completion. Proposed Agency Information Collection Extension
The Department of Energy has submitted to the OMB for clearance, a proposal to amend an information collection request by adding an additional collection to an ICR that already includes two previously approved collections. The two previously approved collections address DOE's Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) Scorecard, and the National Clean Fleets Partnership. DOE is not proposing to expand the scope of these information collection efforts. The proposed new collection is entitled ``Ride and Drive Surveys for PEV Showcases''. DOE's Clean Cities initiative has developed a three-part voluntary ride-and-drive survey to assist its coalitions and stakeholders in assessing the level of interest, understanding, and acceptance of PEVs and alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) by the purchasing public. The principal objective of the Survey is to provide DOE and stakeholders with an objective assessment and estimate of how ready the purchasing public is for PEVs, and to help DOE's Clean Cities coalitions prepare for the successful deployment of these vehicles. DOE intends the surveys to be completed by individuals who are participating in one of many ride-and-drive events.
Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Development of Hydropower in Undeveloped Stream Reaches of the United States; Request for Information
The Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO), within the Department of Energy (DOE) is issuing this request for information (RFI) to invite input from the public regarding challenges and opportunities associated with hydropower development in undeveloped stream-reaches. Through this RFI, the WPTO is also seeking input on the focus and structure of a potential funding opportunity to support research and development of advanced and/or non-traditional transformative hydropower technologies and project designs capable of avoiding or minimizing environmental and social effects of new cost- competitive hydropower development in undeveloped stream-reaches of the United States.
