The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing for public comment a draft plant-specific supplement 53 to the Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, NUREG-1437, regarding the renewal of operating license DPR-77 and DPR-79 for an additional 20 years of operation for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN), Units 1 and 2. SQN is located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Possible alternatives to the proposed action (license renewal) include no action and reasonable alternative energy sources. The NRC staff plans to hold two public meetings during the public comment period to present an overview of the draft plant- specific supplement to the GEIS and to accept public comments on the document.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing an order imposing a civil monetary penalty to Geisser Engineering Corporation. The order requires Geisser Engineering Corporation to pay a civil penalty in the amount of $8,400.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing an exemption in response to a June 4, 2013, request from Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. (DEK, the licensee), from certain regulatory requirements. The exemption would remove the requirement that a licensed senior operator approve the emergency suspension of security measures for Kewaunee Power Station (KPS) during certain emergency conditions or during severe weather.

On June 5, 2014, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) solicited comments on draft NUREG-1520, Revision 2, titled ``Standard Review Plan [SRP] for License Applications for Fuel Cycle Facilities.'' The public comment period was originally scheduled to close on September 3, 2014. The NRC has decided to extend the public comment period on this document to allow more time for members of the public to develop and submit their comments.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted the request of Omaha Public Power District to withdraw its application dated February 18, 2013, as supplemented by letter dated February 20, 2014, for a proposed amendment to Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-40. The proposed amendment would have revised the Technical Specification Definitions and Technical Specification Sections 2.0.1 and 2.7 for Inoperable System, Subsystem or Component Due to Inoperable Power Source.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing a confirmatory order to Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., confirming agreements reached in an Alternative Dispute Resolution session held on May 15, 2014. As part of the agreement, Entergy will take actions to verify security staff and management training credentials, strengthen its safety culture, present the issue at industry meetings, set standards for security senior management and perform an independent effectiveness review. Entergy is also required to notify the NRC periodically of the status of its efforts.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received an application from URENCO USA for amendment of License No. SNM-2010, which authorizes it to operate a uranium enrichment facility. The license authorizes the production of enriched uranium up to a maximum of 5.0 percent U-235, using a gas centrifuge process. The amendment would allow URENCO USA (UUSA or the licensee) to utilize tails of approximately 0.4 wt% U-235 as feed material in a re-feed process; increase its possession mass limit for natural and depleted uranium to 251,000,000 kg; and increase its U-235 possession mass limit to 2,180,000 kg.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is considering issuance of exemptions in response to a February 13, 2014, request from Southern California Edison Company (the licensee), representing itself and the other owners of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Units 2 and 3. One exemption would permit the licensee to use funds from the SONGS, Units 2 and 3 decommissioning trusts (the Trusts) for irradiated fuel management and site restoration costs. Another exemption would allow the licensee to use withdrawals from the Trusts without prior notification to the NRC. The NRC staff is issuing a final Environmental Assessment (EA) and final finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) associated with the proposed exemptions.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is proposing to amend its regulations related to the medical use of byproduct material. In this action the NRC addresses three ongoing rulemaking projects and several other related topics. First, this rule proposes amendments to the reporting and notification requirements for a medical event for permanent implant brachytherapy. Second, the rule proposes changes to the training and experience (T&E) requirements for authorized users, medical physicists, Radiation Safety Officers, and nuclear pharmacists; to the requirements for measuring molybdenum (Mo) contamination and reporting of failed technetium and rubidium generators; and to allow Associate Radiation Safety Officers to be named on a medical license. Third, the rule proposes changes to address a request filed in a petition for rulemaking (PRM), PRM-35-20, to exempt certain board- certified individuals from certain T&E requirements (i.e., ``grandfather'' these individuals) so they may be identified on a license or permit for materials and uses that they performed on or before October 24, 2005, the expiration date of the prior T&E requirements.
