The U.S. Department of Transportation is providing notice that it intends to suspend competitions for its University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program grants (49 USC 5506) pending the enactment of multi-year, surface transportation authorization legislation that is necessary to define the purpose, eligibility, number, and funding amounts of any future grants.
Invitation for Public Comment on Strategic Research Direction, Research Priority Areas and Performance Metrics To Guide Departmental Strategic Plan for Research, Development and Technology Activities (2010-2015)
The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) is providing notice that it is engaging in a strategic planning effort that will guide the Department's research, development, and technology activities as required by SAFETEA-LU. The Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA)'s Office of Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) is coordinating this effort in collaboration with partner modal administrations and offices across the U.S. DOT. As recommended by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the National Research Council (NRC), RITA and its partners are seeking public stakeholder input on research strategies and metrics necessary to achieve U.S. DOT strategic transportation goals and to drive transportation policy in both the short and long terms.
Agency Information Collection; Activity Under OMB Review; Confidential Close Call Reporting System
In compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.), this notice announces that the Information Collection Request (ICR) described below is being forwarded to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for approval for renewal of information collection supporting a five-year research study that aims at improving rail safety by analyzing information on close calls and other unsafe occurrences in the rail industry. The ICR describes the nature of the information collection and its expected burden. The Federal Register notice with a 60-day comment period soliciting comments on the following collection of information was published on October 21, 2009 (74 FR 54116) and the comment period ended on December 21, 2009. The 60-day notice produced no comments.
