Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation June 2017 – Federal Register Recent Federal Regulation Documents

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) intends to request that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) extend approval, under the Paperwork Reduction Act, of the collection of information on qualitative feedback on PBGC's service delivery (OMB Control Number 1212-0066; expires August 31, 2017). This notice informs the public of PBGC's intent and solicits comments on the proposed information collection. This collection of information was developed as part of a Federal Government-wide effort to streamline the process for seeking feedback from the public on service delivery.

This final rule amends the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's regulations on Benefits Payable in Terminated Single- Employer Plans and Allocation of Assets in Single-Employer Plans to prescribe interest assumptions under the benefit payments regulation for valuation dates in July 2017 and interest assumptions under the asset allocation regulation for valuation dates in the third quarter of 2017. The interest assumptions are used for valuing and paying benefits under terminating single-employer plans covered by the pension insurance system administered by PBGC.

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation invited the American Arbitration Association to respond to the public comments submitted in response to its request for approval of an Alternative Arbitration Procedure under section 4221 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 and PBGC's default arbitration procedures. On March 23, 2016, PBGC published notice of the American Arbitration Association's request in the Federal Register to advise interested persons of the request and solicit their views on it. This notice provides the public with the American Arbitration Association's letter response and solicits public comment on the response.
