The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the Committee on Technology, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will hold a technical interchange meeting entitled ``Realizing the Promise of Carbon NanotubesChallenges, Opportunities and the Pathway to Commercialization'' on September 15, 2014. The meeting will be sponsored by the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) and co-sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The objectives of this meeting are to identify, discuss, and report the technical barriers preventing the production of carbon nanotube-based materials with electrical and mechanical properties approaching theoretical values, and to explore ways to overcome these barriers. Obstacles preventing the full exploitation of the multifunctional nature of carbon nanotube materials will also be discussed. This one-day meeting will assemble some of the Nation's leading experts in carbon nanotube research and development, as well as executives and experts from the Federal government, academia, and private sector.

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to enhance the value of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) and of the Nanotechnology Signature Initiative (NSI) entitled Nanotechnology for Sensors and Sensors for Nanotechnology in particular, by reaching out to the nanotechnology stakeholder community for input regarding specific needs for the accelerated development and commercialization of nanosensors. This RFI is intended to inform planning for a public workshop organized under the auspices of the sensors NSI.

The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the Committee on Technology, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will post a document for public comment on the Web site www.nano.gov. The document, The Prioritization of Environmental, Health, and Safety Research Needs for Engineered Nanoscale Materials: An Interim Document for Public Comment, assigns priority to research needs and areas that were identified in the NSET Subcommittee document Environmental, Health, and Safety Research Needs for Engineered Nanoscale Materials, which was published on September 21, 2006. The comment period will commence on August 16, 2007 and end on September 17, 2007. Web site Posting: The prioritization document and request for comment will be posted at the Web site of the National Nanotechnology Initiative, www.nano.gov. (The document can be accessed from the indicated home page or by going directly to https://www.nano.gov/html/ society/ehspriorities.) The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the Committee on Technology, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will hold a public meeting on January 4, 2007, to receive input on research needs related to the environmental, health, and safety aspects of engineered nanoscale materials (hereafter referred to as nanomaterials). Specifically, the NSET Subcommittee is seeking comment on the research needs and prioritization criteria for the research identified in the NSET Subcommittee document Environmental, Health, and Safety Research Needs for Engineered Nanoscale Materials, which was released on September 15, 2006. Date and Address: The public meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the FDIC Training Center, 3501 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22226. A schedule will be published prior to the meeting. Directions to the facility are available on the registration web page (see below). Registration: Persons interested in attending the meeting may register at https://www.nano.gov/publicehs.html prior to the meeting. Due to space limitations, early registration is suggested. On-site registration will be available on a first-come basis, space permitting.
