The proposed Mississippi River Lock and Dam 5A Hydroelectric Project would consist of the following: (1) a proposed intake channel approximately 200 to 350 feet long and 90 feet wide located near the west bank of the existing Corps’ dam; (2) a proposed 100foot-long, 180-foot-wide reinforced concrete powerhouse, located downstream of the existing Corps’ dam, containing two Kaplan pit turbinegenerators with a total capacity of 14.0 megawatts; (4) a new 200-foot-long, 100foot-wide unlined tailrace channel with stone riprap and a new 300-foot-long concrete retaining wall downstream of the powerhouse; and (5) a proposed transmission line approximately 1,000 foot from the project site connecting the substation to the grid.
