Requests for Repatriation
Written requests for repatriation of the
human remains and associated funerary
objects in this notice must be sent to the
authorized representative identified in
this notice under ADDRESSES. Requests
for repatriation may be submitted by:
1. Any one or more of the Indian
Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations
identified in this notice.
2. Any lineal descendant, Indian
Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization
not identified in this notice who shows,
by a preponderance of the evidence, that
the requestor is a lineal descendant or
a culturally affiliated Indian Tribe or
Native Hawaiian organization.
Repatriation of the human remains
and associated funerary objects in this
notice to a requestor may occur on or
after May 8, 2024. If competing requests
for repatriation are received, the Florida
Department of Transportation must
determine the most appropriate
requestor prior to repatriation. Requests
for joint repatriation of the human
remains and associated funerary objects
are considered a single request and not
competing requests. The Florida
Department of Transportation is
responsible for sending a copy of this
notice to the Indian Tribes and Native
Hawaiian organizations identified in
this notice.

The Florida Department of
Transportation has determined that:
• The human remains described in
this notice represent the physical
remains of three individuals of Native
American ancestry.
• The 3,702 objects described in this
notice are reasonably believed to have
been placed intentionally with or near
individual human remains at the time of
death or later as part of the death rite
or ceremony.
• There is a reasonable connection
between the human remains and
associated funerary objects described in
this notice and the Seminole Tribe of
Florida.

In accordance with the
Federal Advisory Committee Act of
1972, as amended, the National Park
Service (NPS) is hereby giving notice
that the Gateway National Recreation
Area Fort Hancock 21st Century
Advisory Committee (Committee) will
meet as indicated below.
DATES: The virtual meeting will take
place on Monday, May 20, 2024. The
meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. until
2:00 p.m., with a public comment
period at 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
(EASTERN), with advance registration
required. Individuals that wish to
participate must contact the person
listed in the FOR FURTHER INFORMATION
CONTACT section no later than May 15,
2024, to receive instructions for
accessing the meeting.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: This
will be a virtual meeting. Anyone
interested in attending should contact
Daphne Yun, Acting Public Affairs
Officer, Gateway National Recreation

Committee was established on April 18,
2012, by authority of the Secretary of
the Interior (Secretary) under 54 U.S.C.
100906(a) and is regulated by the
Federal Advisory Committee Act. The
Committee provides advice to the
Secretary, through the Director of the
NPS, on matters relating to the Fort
Hancock Historic District of Gateway

persons may present, either orally or
through written comments, information
for the Committee to consider during
the public meeting. Written comments
will be accepted prior to, during, or after
the meeting. Members of the public may
submit written comments by mailing
them to the person listed in the FOR
FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT section.
Purpose of the Meeting: The Gateway
National Recreation Area will discuss
leasing updates, general park updates,
and working group updates. The final
agenda will be posted on the
Committee’s website at https://
www.forthancock21.org. The website
includes meeting minutes from all prior
meetings.
Due to time constraints during the
meeting, the Committee is not able to
read written public comments
submitted into the record. Individuals
or groups requesting to make oral
comments at the public Committee
meeting will be limited to no more than
three minutes per speaker. All
comments will be made part of the
public record and will be electronically
distributed to all Committee members.
Detailed minutes of the meeting will be
available for public inspection within
90 days of the meeting.
Meeting Accessibility/Special
Accommodations: The meeting is open
to the public. Please make requests in
advance for sign language interpreter
services, assistive listening devices, or
other reasonable accommodations. We
ask that you contact the person listed in
the FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT
section of this notice at least seven (7)
business days prior to the meeting to
give the Department of the Interior
sufficient time to process your request.
All reasonable accommodation requests
are managed on a case-by-case basis.
