Thomas Gilcrease purchased Lenders’ collection, including these three individuals, in 1950. Thomas Gilcrease transferred his collection to the City of Tulsa in 1955. The three individuals are of unknown age and sex. No associated funerary objects are present. SUMMARY: In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and 
Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Gilcrease Museum has completed an 
inventory of human remains and has determined that there is a cultural 
affiliation between the human remains and Indian Tribes or Native 
Hawaiian organizations in this notice. The human remains were removed 
from an unknown location.

DATES: Repatriation of the human remains in this notice may occur on or 
after April 3, 2024.

    Human remains representing, at minimum, three individuals were 
removed from an unknown location. Around 1900, Emil Lenders, a painter 
and collector, traveled throughout the Plains and acquired these three 
scalp locks. Thomas Gilcrease purchased Lenders' collection, including 
these three individuals, in 1950. Thomas Gilcrease transferred his 
collection to the City of Tulsa in 1955. The three individuals are of 
unknown age and sex. No associated funerary objects are present.
