k. Description of Request: The
licensee requests Commission approval
to grant the City of Hickory (City)
permission to use project lands and
water within the project boundary on
Lake Hickory for the operation of the
existing Long View Water Intake
Facility (Facility). The City purchased
the Facility from the previous owner in
2016, and since then, has been using the
Facility as an emergency back-up for its
primary water intake facility, located
outside of the project boundary.
Therefore, the City only operates the
Facility in the event that its primary
intake is unavailable due to natural
disaster, accidental spill, or other
similar circumstances. When in
operation, the maximum withdrawal
rate of the Facility is 2 million gallons
per day (MGD). The City is not
proposing to modify the Facility in any
way; therefore, there is no construction
associated with the request.
