Abstract of Proposed Collection The U.S. Passport Renewal Application for Eligible Individuals (Form DS–82) is used by eligible citizens and non-citizen nationals (hereinafter, collectively referred to as ‘‘nationals’’) of the United States who need to renew their current or recently expired U.S. passport (a travel document attesting to one’s identity and U.S. nationality). This form has been amended based on a change in Department policy. The Department’s new policy permits passport applicants to select the gender marker on their passport without presenting medical documentation of gender transition. This policy change includes updating forms to add a third gender marker ‘‘X’’ for applicants identifying as non-binary, intersex, and/ or gender non-conforming (in addition to the existing ‘‘M’’ and ‘‘F’’ gender markers).
