Residents, emergency responders, and engineers rely on the USGS for this accurate and scientifically sound information. The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program funds external investigators to carry out these important activities. In response to our Program Announcements, investigators submit proposals for research and monitoring activities on earthquake hazard assessments, earthquake causes and effects, and earthquake monitoring. This information is used as the basis for selection and award of projects meeting the USGS’s Earthquake Hazards Program objectives. Final reports of research and monitoring findings are required for each funded proposal; annual progress reports are required for awards of a two- to five-year duration. Secretary--Indian Affairs under 25 U.S.C. 2 and 9 and 209 DM 8. 
Published below is an updated list of federally acknowledged Indian 
Tribes in the contiguous 48 states and Alaska. Amendments to the list 
include formatting edits, name changes, and name corrections. The list 
is updated from the notice published on July 23, 2018 (83 FR 34863).
    To aid in identifying Tribal name changes and corrections, the 
Tribe's previously listed or former name is included in parentheses 
after the correct current Tribal name. We will continue to list the 
Tribe's former or previously listed name for several years before 
dropping the former or previously listed name from the list.
    The listed Indian entities are acknowledged to have the immunities 
and privileges available to federally recognized Indian Tribes by 
virtue of their government-to-government relationship with the United 
States as well as the responsibilities, powers, limitations, and 
obligations of such Tribes. We have continued the practice of listing
