ACTION: Notice of proposed rulemaking;
extension of comment period.
AGENCY:
On November 29, 2018, the
Department published in the Federal
Register a notice of proposed
rulemaking (NPRM) to amend the
Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex
in Education Programs or Activities
Receiving Federal Financial Assistance
regulations. That NPRM established a
60-day comment period from November
29, 2018, through January 28, 2019. The
Department is extending the public
comment period for two days, until
January 30, 2019.
DATES: The comment period for the
proposed rule published November 29,
2018, at 83 FR 61462, is extended.
Comments must be submitted to the
Department on or before January 30,
2019.
SUMMARY:
Submit your comments
through the Federal eRulemaking Portal
or via postal mail, commercial delivery,
or hand delivery. The Department will
not accept comments submitted by fax
or by email or those submitted after the
comment period. To ensure that the
Department does not receive duplicate
copies, please submit your comments
only once. In addition, please include
the Docket ID at the top of your
comments.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:
Background: On November 29, 2018,
the Department published an NPRM in
the Federal Register (83 FR 61462), to
amend the Nondiscrimination on the
Basis of Sex in Education Programs or
Activities Receiving Federal Financial
Assistance regulations to provide
appropriate standards for how
recipients must respond to incidents of
sexual harassment. The NPRM
established a 60-day comment period
through January 28, 2019. However, the
Federal eRulemaking Portal was
temporarily unavailable for a portion of
January 16 and 17, 2019, due to
technical issues. To ensure that the
public will have had 60 days in total to
submit comments on the Department’s
NPRM using the Federal eRulemaking
Portal, the Department is extending the
public comment period for an
additional two days. The Department
