Description of Request: The applicant proposes to update the project design to correspond to changes resulting from engineering development since license issuance. The new design is more economical to construct and eliminates removing the landward lock wall, which was objected to by the Kentucky River Authority. The licensee proposes to reduce the size of the powerhouse, intake structure, and tailrace to fit completely inside the lock chamber. In addition, the licensee is proposing to change from two 2.5megawatt (MW) horizontal pit Kaplan turbine generators to five 528-kilowatt Flygt submersible turbine-generator units. The authorized installed capacity will reduce from 5 MW to 2.64 MW, and the maximum total hydraulic capacity will decrease from 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 2,250 cfs. Lastly, the licensee proposes to add a control building located at the right abutment adjacent to the existing concrete esplanade. The proposed amendment will not change the approved run-ofriver operation mode of the project or the approved project boundary. l.
