Abstract: This Part implements the
requirements in Sections 506 and 511 of
30 U.S.C. 1201 et seq. which provides
that persons seeking permit revisions,
renewals, transfer, assignment, or sale of
their permit rights for coal mining
activities submit relevant information to
the regulatory authority to allow the
regulatory authority to determine
whether the applicant meets the
requirements for the action anticipated.
Form Number: None.
Type of Review: Extension of a
currently approved collection.
Respondents/Affected Public: Surface
coal mining permit applicants and State
regulatory authorities.

Part 822 requires the permittee to
install, maintain, and operate a
monitoring system in order to provide
specific protection for alluvial valley
floors. This information is necessary to
determine whether the unique
hydrologic conditions of alluvial valley
floors are protected according to the
