ACTION: Notice.
AGENCY:
This notice updates the
prospective payment rates for Medicare
inpatient hospital services provided by
inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs)
(which include freestanding IPFs and
psychiatric units of an acute care
hospital or critical access hospital).
These changes are applicable to IPF
discharges occurring during the fiscal
year (FY) beginning October 1, 2016
through September 30, 2017 (FY 2017).
DATES: Effective: The updated IPF
prospective payment rates are effective
for discharges occurring on or after
October 1, 2016 through September 30,
2017.

In the past, tables setting forth the
Wage Index for Urban Areas Based on
Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA)
Labor Market Areas and the Wage Index
Based on CBSA Labor Market Areas for
Rural Areas were published in the
Federal Register as an Addendum to the
annual IPF Prospective Payment System
(PPS) rulemaking (that is, the IPF PPS
proposed and final rules or notice).
However, since FY 2015, these wage
index tables are no longer published in
the Federal Register. Instead, these
tables are available exclusively through
the Internet, on the CMS Web site at
https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/
