Report of Public Safety Offices Death.

Department sponsoring the collection:

4. Affected public who will be asked
or required to respond, as well as a brief
abstract: Primary: Public safety agencies
experiencing the death of a public safety
officer according to the PSOB Act.
Abstract: BJA’s Public Safety Officers’
Benefits (PSOB) Office will use the
PSOB Report of Public Safety Officer’s
Death Form information to confirm the
eligibility of applicants to receive Public
Safety Officers’ Death Benefits.
Eligibility is dependent on several
factors, including public safety officer
status, an injury sustained in the line of
duty, and the claimant status in the
beneficiary hierarchy according to the
PSOB Act. In addition, information to
help the PSOB Office identify an
individual is collected, such as Social
Security numbers, telephone numbers,
and email addresses. Changes to the
report form have been made in an effort
to streamline the application process
and eliminate requests for information
that are either irrelevant or already
being collected by other means.
5. An estimate of the total number of
respondents and the amount of time
estimated for an average respondent to
respond: It is estimated that not more
than 350 respondents will apply a year.
Each application takes approximately
240 minutes.
6. An estimate of the total public
burden (in hours) associated with the
collection: The Total Annual Reporting
Burden: 350 × 240 minutes per
application = 84,000 minutes/by 60
minutes per hour = 1,400 hours.
