The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates statistics on the criminal victimization in the U.S. (5) An estimate of the total number of respondents and the amount of time estimated for an average respondent to respond: An estimate of the total number of respondents is 20,000. The average length of interview will vary by the type of interview conducted. Completing the crime screener and incident report is estimated to take the average interviewed respondent 15–30 minutes to respond, while a cognitive interview for testing alternative methods for measuring victimization may take 1– 2 hours.
