Director presenting an update on
current research, programs, and
initiatives. Following the Director’s
Update, the agenda will include a
presentation on AHRQ’s work to make
health care safer followed by a
discussion on reducing healthcare
disparities. The final agenda will be
available on the AHRQ Web site at

I. Purpose
In accordance with section 10(a)(2) of
the Federal Advisory Committee Act
(Pub. L. 92–463), the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC),
announces the following meeting of the
aforementioned committee:
Times and Dates:
8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., November 18, 2014
8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., November 19,
2014
Place: CDC, 4770 Buford Highway,
Atlanta, Georgia 30341.
Status: Open to the public, limited
only by the space available.
The meeting room accommodates
approximately 60 people.
Purpose: The Secretary, Department
of Health and Human Services (HHS)
and by delegation, the Director, CDC
and Administrator, NCEH/ATSDR, are
authorized under Section 301(42 U.S.C.
241) and Section 311(42 U.S.C. 243) of
the Public Health Service Act, as
amended, to: (1) Conduct, encourage,
cooperate with, and assist other
appropriate public authorities, scientific
institutions, and scientists in the
conduct of research, investigations,
experiments, demonstrations, and
studies relating to the causes, diagnosis,
treatment, control, and prevention of
physical and mental diseases and other
impairments; (2) assist states and their
political subdivisions in the prevention
of infectious diseases and other
preventable conditions and in the
promotion of health and well being; and
(3) train state and local personnel in
health work. The BSC, NCEH/ATSDR
ADDRESSES:
The National Advisory Council for
Healthcare Research and Quality is
authorized by Section 941 of the Public
Health Service Act, 42 U.S.C. 299c. In
accordance with its statutory mandate,
the Council is to advise the Secretary of
the Department of Health and Human
Services and the Director, Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality
(AHRQ), on matters related to AHRQ’s
conduct of its mission including
providing guidance on (A) priorities for
health care research, (B) the field of
health care research including training
needs and information dissemination on
health care quality and (C) the role of
the Agency in light of private sector
activity and opportunities for public
private partnerships.
The Council is composed of members
of the public, appointed by the
Secretary, and Federal ex-officio
members specified in the authorizing
legislation.

II. Agenda
On Friday, November 7, 2014, there
will be a subcommittee meeting for the
National Healthcare Quality and
Disparities Report scheduled to begin at
7:30 a.m. in room 425A. The
subcommittee meeting is open the
public. The Council meeting will
convene at 8:30 a.m., with the call to
order by the Council Chair and approval
of previous Council summary notes. The
meeting is open to the public. The

Occupational Safety and Health, U.S.
Department of Energy and the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency; and
discussion of future BSC agenda topics
and action items.
