Federal Register / Vol. 79, No. 115 / Monday, June 16, 2014 / Rules and Regulations
that the draw need not open for vessels,
to accommodate annual races. Most
waterway traffic for both bridges
consists of recreational boats with a few
barges and tugs in the daytime.
Vessels able to pass under these
bridges in the closed position may do so
at any time and are advised to proceed
with caution. The bridges will be able
to open for emergencies as soon as
safely possible. There are no alternate
routes available to vessels transiting
these waterways. These races have been
an annual event; therefore, local
waterway users should be familiar with
these closures. The Coast Guard will
also inform additional waterway users
through our Local and Broadcast
Notices to Mariners of the closure
periods for the bridge so that vessels can
arrange their transits to minimize any
impacts caused by the temporary
deviation.
In accordance with 33 CFR 117.35(e),
the drawbridges must return to their
regular operating schedules
immediately at the end of the effective
period of this temporary deviation. This
deviation from the operating regulations
is authorized under 33 CFR 117.35.
