In compliance with Section
3506(c)(2)(A) of the Paperwork
Reduction Act of 1995, the Department
of the Air Force announces a
reinstatement of a public information
collection and seeks public comment on
the provisions thereof. Comments are
invited on: (a) Whether the proposed
collection of information is necessary
for the proper performance of the
functions of the agency, including
whether the information shall have
practical utility; (b) the accuracy of the
agency’s estimate of the burden of the
proposed information collection;
(c) ways to enhance the quality, utility,
and clarity of the information to be
collected; and (d) ways to minimize the
burden of the information collection on
respondents, including through the use
of automated collection techniques or
other forms of information technology.
DATES: Consideration will be given to all
comments received by July 28, 2014.

Needs and Uses: The Air Force Office
of Scientific Research (AFOSR) manages
the entire basic research investment for
the U.S. Air Force. As part of the Air
Force Research Laboratory (AFRL),
AFOSR’s technical experts support and
fund research programs within the
AFRL and other Air Force research
activities. Applications for fellowships
and associateships at AFRL research
sites and the research activities at the
U.S. Air Force Academy, and Air Force
Institute of Technology (AFIT) and the
associated award forms provide
information used to identify some of the
nation’s most talented scientific
personnel for award of fellowships and
associateships at Air Force research
activities. Summer fellowships provide
research opportunities for 8–14 weeks at
an Air Force research site. Research
Associates generally spend 1 to 3 years
at an Air Force research site. SFFP and
NRC/RRA provide postdoctoral and
