DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Food Safety and Inspection Service Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection; Comment Request—Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Sponsor and Provider Characteristics Study Title: Nutrition Labeling of Major Cuts of Single-Ingredient Raw Meat or Poultry Products and Ground or Chopped Meat and Poultry Products OMB Control Number: 0583–0148 Summary of Collection: The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has been delegated the authority to exercise the functions of the Secretary as provided in the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) (21 U.S.C. 601 et. seq.) and the Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA) (21 U.S.C. 451, et seq.) These statutes mandate that FSIS protect the public by verifying that meat and, poultry products are safe, wholesome, not adulterated, and properly labeled and packaged. FSIS requires nutrition labeling of the major cuts of singleingredients, raw meat and poultry products, unless an exemption applies. FSIS also requires nutrition labels on all ground or chopped meat and poultry products, with or without added seasonings, unless an exemption applies. Further, the nutrition labeling requirements for all ground or chopped meat and poultry products are consistent with the nutrition labeling requirements for multi-ingredient and heat processed products.
